Empowerment from the Grassroots

As a Responsible Corporate Citizen , it has always been our endeavor to contribute back to the society and the communities in which we operate. As a part of our sustainability strategy, we undertake several community development programmes aimed at uplifting the lives of farmers and that of the rural poor. The overarching focus has always been “Empowerment from the grassroots.”

We have adopted three villages i.e Gatla Narsingapur, Ramnagar and Bollone Pally in Telangana .

  • Kaveri seeds constructed school building at Gatla Narsingapur & Siddipet, complete with an air-conditioned computer room with a projector room, a solar power generation system and CCTV cameras,
  • Provided scholarships to school and college-going students from socially backward communities, encouraging them to pursue higher studies
  • Provided a buses for school-going children at Gatla Narsingapur,
  • Distributed spoken English books to school going children in the villages of Sirpur Kagajnagar, Adilabad district and Siddipet and Gatla Narsingapur, Warangal Urban.
  • To motivate students we sponsored gold medals for talented students of B.Sc., Agricultural Engineering at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU).

Outcome

Following the construction of our advanced school building in Gatla Narsingapur, the percentage of school going children has increased substantially. The school’s student strength has crossed 700+, by attracting students from neighboring villages as well. Parents are motivated to send their children to school instead of employing them in their farm operations. The economically backward too are part of this progress. As a result, the literacy level of the village is improving significantly.

  • Drilled 50 borewells in farmer’s fields at Gatla Narsingapur and Bollone Pally.
  • Under Telangana Government’s Kakatiya Mission, donated 2 crores for de-silting of pond at Gatla Narsingapur to improve water storage and increase the area under irrigation

Outcome

“Farmers in Gatla Narsingapur were dependent on favourable monsoon every year for crop cultivation. We de-silted a water tank and drilled numerous bore wells in the village to augment irrigation access in the area. As a result, farmers raise two to three crops in a calendar year, with enhanced crop intensity (from 200% to 300%), thereby improving their financial security.”

  • Established a mineral water plant at Gatla Narsingapur to supply clean drinking water
  • Created and improved road and drainage facilities in these villages
  • Undertook a massive tree-plantation drive in these villages under ‘Haritha Haram’ programme
  • Imparted training programmes on seed production in maize and rice; moreover, our ‘farmer-level self-seed production programme’ ensured active participation of farmers.
